Becoming a “major league city” means more to Oklahoma City than just having a pro basketball team.
Last week OKC hosted six international softball teams (150 athletes and coaches) at the World Cup of Softball at Hall of Fame Stadium. In two weeks, theUSRowing Masters National Championships will take over the Oklahoma River with 1600 athletes competing in more than 200 events. This is big!
Of course, the Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau is actively involved in each of these events and is working hard to ensure the visiting athletes go home with a great impression of the city. One of the ways they are achieving this goal is by supplying each athlete and coach a sling-type of bag with the Oklahoma City logo emblazoned on it.
“We have provided bags for sporting events like these for several years now,” said Elisa Milbourn, Marketing and Communications Coordinator for the OKCCVB. “The feedback has been phenomenal. People love the bags and keep requesting them.”
At the World Cup of Softball (where Team USA won its fifth straight title!) the bags (filled with snacks and other promotional items) were handed out to the athletes as they completed their registration. It was OKC’s way of saying “We’re glad you’re here!” And, this effort is paying off with more and more events being booked.
More of the bags will be used when the Oklahoma Regatta Festival and Oklahoma City University Head of the Oklahoma kicks off on September 29th. With over 1200 collegiate, masters and junior rowers and kayakers from across the country taking part in the festivities, a lot of people are going to see these Oklahoma City bags, which is exactly what the OKCCVB wants.
“This is such a great promotional tool for us,” said Elisa. “The bags look fantastic, which reflects on us. In fact, we’re ordering more of them for many of the other events we host throughout the year.”
