Row for the Gold
The fastest kayakers in the US are in Oklahoma City today in hopes of achieving Olympic glory in London this summer, and YOU have the opportunity to see them today and tomorrow in the Boathouse District.
Two-time Olympian Carrie Johnson is looking for a win in the Women’s Single Kayak 500-meter event while 2011 Pan Am Games Bronze Medalist Ryan Dolan is competing in the Men’s Single Kayak 200-meter event. Each of these athletes will earn a berth to the Olympic Games… IF they win!
Plus, USA Canoe/Kayak will be holding its National Team Trials for the 2012 ICF World Cup and ICF Paracanoe World Championships. This is sure to be some exciting racing.
Oklahoma City RiverSport teamed up with ROBYN Promotions to create these beautiful trophies to honor the Olympic Trials winners.
Time trials will take place Friday night from 5-7 pm and racing will continue Saturday morning at 8 am. Admission is free and food vendors will be onsite, so bring the whole family to the Boathouse District!
Plus, there will be an autograph session on Saturday at 11 am at the Chesapeake Finish Line Tower and a Paddle Now Youth Experience from noon to 2 pm for kids in grades 2 through 9. The youngsters will get into sprint boats with some of the fastest kayakers in the nation to feel what it’s like to paddle on the water. For more information, contact coach Aasim Saleh.
