When a good cause and strategic marketing come together to support each other, everyone benefits. Smart marketers know the value of supporting their favorite non-profit organizations, and savvy fund-raisers like the folks at White Fields know how to maximize their sponsor’s impact.
Every fall, SandRidge Energy hosts the White Fields Invitational, the signature fund-raising event for the boys’ home. This year, the event kicked off Sunday, September 30th with a dinner and auction at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum followed by a two-day golf tournament at the Oak Tree Golf & Country Club. They played the East Course on Monday and the National Course on Tuesday.
“This was our most successful tournament yet,” said Christy Kruchten, Communications Specialist. “We raised over $700,000 and 100% of the proceeds will go to White Fields.” The funds came from a variety of sources: tournament participants, donated auction items and corporate sponsorships.
“We had 850 attendees for the dinner and auction alone,” said Janae Panter, Community Relations Event Coordinator for SandRidge, “and over 600 golfers entered the tournament. We are thrilled with the results!”
“While SandRidge is the premier sponsor of the event,” said Janae, “We had all kinds of great sponsors from the oil and gas industry.”
“Being a sponsor of a charity’s event provides a unique opportunity for a company to show their human side,” said Kevin Jessop, president of the AMAOKC. “While it’s a brilliant strategy that’s beneficial for both parties, it’s more than just a promotion… it really is a way to pay it forward.”
And, according to a recent study conducted by the Advertising Specialty Institute, branded drinkware is kept for 7.1 months. That means for the price of one magazine ad, RigNet will keep their brand (connected to the White Fields brand by having both logos on this tumbler) in front of hundreds of people in the industry they serve for the better part of a year. Now, THAT is smart marketing!
Of course, while the golfers had a great time on the links and the sponsors enjoyed being Smarketers, the real winner here is White Fields. Founded in 2000, they care for boys who are victims of severe abuse and neglect. By providing them a long-term home, counseling and an on-campus school, they work give these boys “hope and stability to help them along their roads to recovery and healing.”
