Unless you've been living under a rock, you know there is a huge competition going on this Sunday. That's right... Battle of the Super Bowl Ads! Oh, and a football game, of course.
At $4 million per 30-second spot, though, it's easy to see how the focus of this event can turn from the players on the field to the players in the marketing arena. Who is going to be the most creative? Who is going to flop? And, how does a brand justify spending that kind of money on one 30-second spot?
While marketers across the country are debating these questions with each other, the AMAOKC's annual Super Bowl Showdown (February 13, 2014) gives the MarComm community an opportunity to analyze the most popular ads shown during the Super Bowl. Featuring a panel of seasoned marketing pros from different types of organizations, the top commercials are shown to the audience before each panelist shares a few thoughts about its effectiveness. But this is just the beginning!
The professional marketers in the audience each have an opinion, too. Several years ago, the SwagExperts at ROBYN started giving these smart marketers the opportunity to share their opinions with giant foam rubber thumbs. After the panelists give their insights, the audience votes whether they "LIKE" the ad with a thumbs up or thumbs down.
Not only is it a lot of fun, but voting like this sparks some great conversations at the tables and makes the experience truly interactive. No wonder this is one of the organization's most popular luncheons of the year.
"The AMAOKC has a sophisticated audience who deserve to have a voice," says Dr. Burt Smith, emcee of the event. "The thumbs respect these marketers by giving them a chance to share their opinions... which sometimes differ from the panelists!"
Speaking of voting... We asked our friends to vote for their Favorite Client Story of 2013. The response was overwhelming and we would like to thank everyone who participated. Now, it's time to announce the winner of this coveted honor.
Congratulations to VI Marketing & Branding and Downtown OKC, Inc. for their creative umbrella campaign!
